Exploration of violence, as it pertains to the anthropomorphization of inanimate objects, as well as secrets and the process of DIY. Similar to making a slingshot or a false bottom container, the objects and ideas are relatively harmless unless placed in an ominous context. The suspension of this context is at stake, and the viewer is left to decide whether the actions of the artist are malicious or not.
Tearin' Down the House
2011 Performance for video shed, sledgehammer
Documentation of the destruction of a shed. My father, whom makes a cameo as the voice of concern, works in foreclosures, cleaning and maintaining real estate under instruction of the banks that own them. Often the empty residences are in a state of disarray--evidence of a quick, rushed departure, with trash, dishes, toys, and other personal belongings being left behind for us to dispose. An exploration of violence both physical and emotional, considering the trajectory of the process of forcefully removing a family from its home and the surrounding circumstances that lead to such an eviction.

Broaden and Build (Mischief Maker)
2012 video performance
(From Wikipedia) The broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions suggests that positiveemotionsbroaden one's awareness and encourage novel, varied, and exploratory thoughts and actions. Over time, this broadened behavioral repertoire builds skills and resources. For example, curiosity about a landscape becomes valuable navigational knowledge; pleasant interactions with a stranger become a supportive friendship; aimless physical play becomes exercise and physical excellence.
Sequence follows psychology and cycle of violence—a period of relative calm, until a build-up of frustration by a series of “incidents" triggers a violent outburst, followed by the calm state, etc. An exploration of desire, the anthropomorphization of the object and the violence on its symbolic form, which only begets more violence, as exemplified by the cyclic, rewardless, and self-destructive search.
when i grow up, i'ma be a Man's man
Exploring maturity vs. senescence. Perhaps the closest thing to an initiation into manhood in our culture, shaving becomes a daily ritual in a young man's life. Here, the act is freed from a context of age, questioning the purpose, role and function of shaving in relation to society, personality, and gender expectations.
